Are You Really Too Busy To Workout?

The old saying, “Someone who is busier than you is running right now,” has always resonated with me. Especially when I think of Joe Pope and Jeff Snyder; the two active duty males in our evening Boot Camp Class that are training for the Hawaii Ultra Running Team 100 mile race (A.K.A: HURT 100).  Let me break that down for you a little more: On Saturday, January 16 – Sunday, January 17 both men will be running:

 100 miles on hiking trails (not roads)

With 24,500 feet of elevation gain and loss

Over narrow trails with roots, rocks, puddles, and mud

Across 20 stream

With only three aid stations

With a 36-hour time limit

 Here’s a small peek into Jeff’s month of training from his Facebook page:

 HURT 100 Training – Fourth month recap:

Mileage – 258 Miles over 40 hours

Elevation – 20,900 ft

3 hours of yoga

4 hours of boot camp. 
Solid month of training. I was able to average 54 miles on 5 runs a week. 
Boot camp continues to be a training multiplier. It holds me accountable and pushes me in an area that I would not push myself.

. I struggled with adding more yoga this month while maintaining a work / life / training balance. I’m extremely pleased and grateful with my progress and look forward as the work intensifies to prepare for / to HURT. Focus this month is on mileage, staying healthy, and race specific training to test gear and nutrition.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Joe Pope won 4th place at the Tantalus Triple Trek 30 mile race in August and 1st place at the Peacock 50KM in October. Joe had this to say about his training with DumBell Fitness, “Seriously, since I started doing DBF workouts again, at the end of May of this year, I have been injury-free. The base of strength has given me the confidence to really push myself in my ultra marathon training.”

These guys are seriously killing it and making us so proud!
